The Do’s and Don’ts of mixing up a signature scent.

Posted by Miri Elm on

Finding a fragrance that’s right for you can be a difficult process. Sometimes items that smell great in the store just don’t seem to work on you, or your products have conflicting notes that leave everything smelling sour. Here are our top tips and tricks for mixing up a signature flavour and making it last all day.

1.DO: Pay Attention To Your Perfume

Make sure that your perfume and body wash don’t have competing scents. Floral notes usually compliment most perfume scents, but if you want to enhance your perfume rather than compliment it, it’s best to use something in the same family. Scents with mainly citrus notes work best with clean, sharp body soaps like Lemongrass or Sandalwood.

2.DON’T: Shy Away From Strong Fragrances

Soap with an intense initial fragrance might actually be your best bet at smelling heavenly all day. The initial intense notes from fragrances like Lavender and rosewater fade in the first 10-15 minutes, leaving you with something called a “middle note”, a much milder scent that will last all day. Specifically with bath soaps, initial scents are seldom what you are left with because it is mostly washed off in the shower.

3.DON’T: Mix Too Many Florals

Mixing Sweet Pea, Lavender, and Rose might sound like a great idea, but they will probably end up smelling like some weird floral explosion. Florals are great bases but they compete with each other. Instead, pick one to stand out and build up on that.

4.DO: Combine Fragrances That Complement Each Other

There really is no sure-fire way to figure out exactly which soap scent will work best with your perfume if you want to mix it up so try it out! Lather some suds up on your hands and pay a little extra attention to the wrist. After your done spray some of your favorite perfume over it and wait 15 minutes. If you like the combos, repeat all over, if not, try again!

5.DO: Moisturize

Scents absorb 80% better when applied to moisturized skin, we can help you out with that ;)

6.DON’T: Use Fragrant Soap Under The Shower head

When lathering up with scented soap, step out of the stream of water while lathering up. This allows the scent to penetrate the skin and last longer.
